Build economic value into the product.
Design decisions also create costs. Materials, component counts, surfaces, assembly and use therefore belong in the same discussion.
Find the bigger opportunity.
A new colour can remain a small adjustment or prompt a review of the entire painting process. We start with the business objective: lower manufacturing costs, shorter assembly times or less downtime for operators? Only then do we determine which product decisions matter.
Evaluate alternatives together.
Panels, joints, materials and accessibility influence both effort and impact. We develop alternatives and coordinate them with engineering, manufacturing and commercial teams. An apparent saving only makes sense when function, durability and perceived product value are considered too.
Distinguish manufacturing from operation.
Lower manufacturing effort and less downtime require different evidence. Operation and maintenance access can make work easier, but do not replace a technical root-cause analysis. Whether a change pays off must be assessed using your processes and reliable data. The HOMAG project shows how a design brief can open up a fresh view of manufacturing.
